Here are some important tips regarding fire safety :

COOKING - Unattended cooking is the leading cause of home fires in the U.S. When holiday cooking keep an eye on the range and if you have to leave the room carry a timer with you to remind you that food is cooking.

CANDLES - Always put candles in candlesticks before you light them, never leave them unattende or in the reach of children, and put them completely out before going to sleep or leaving the room.

FIREPLACES - Fireplaces should be cleaned once a year. Use a screen when using the fireplace to prevent sparks from entering your home. Burn only seasoned wood, never burn wrapping paper, packing materials, or other rubbish. Wait until ashes are cool to remove them from the fireplace. Dispose of them in a noncombustable container.

SMOKE DETECTORS - Make sure all smoke detectors are working properly and have new batteries.
